The individual's inability to develop relationships with people around him and society as a whole, an inability to love, have turned his everyday life into a never-ending line of impersonal rituals.
The initially mythological and individual character of rituals is thereby depleted to the formalism of a collectively performed assignment, which steers the lives of individuals and society predictably and in a rhythmical way, according to dates in calendar.
Compassion, friendship, joy in the success of others and self-sacrifice are not human and ever present values, but concepts that are recalled only a few times a year. Individuality and genuine feelings are replaced by false decorations, while the values mentioned earlier are compensated in materialism. Thereby a pretty story is created about sincerity, remembrance, loving relationships and humanity.
But whether to believe this story or not is an individual choice.
As is the comprehension that maybe the desire to see only a hypocritical sham and falseness everywhere indicates one's own alienations and lack of empathy.
