“Layers” is a story about ideas and dreams and their physical materialisation in the countryside of Latgalia. These are visions and plans which have clustered and “landed” on the ground in an appearance of different and extraordinary buildings like lakes in the Latvian tales which fly in the sky until they find their right place on the ground.

 

Often these buildings have been built by the owners themselves without legal planning procedures, so frequently they can't be found on maps or plans as if they would still exist slightly above the ground as visions in the minds of their creators. Despite the fact that these visions have found a place to stay and have acquired physical shapes, they keep on developing and transforming because of the various circumstances affecting them. This continuously creates new layers not only in the landscape of the countryside, but also within the mental map of Latgalia and Latvia.
