Biometrics

</>

On July 5 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered into force in Latvia, providing, among other things, that photographs taken in public space may be published only with the consent of the people shown in the pictures, or their face, tattoos and other identifying features must be made invisible.

In my work “Biometrics”, I would like to highlight the potentially absurd consequences of the data protection law, while proposing an equally absurd method for photographers to use in the future. To illustrate this, I gave my models a self-defence stick instead of a selfie stick. Thus, with this new form of protection, camouflage has become possible in the key medium of this ocularcentric eraphotography.
