Human is possible

</>

Men today face various social stereotypes. Are surrounding opinions on masculinity a support or a hindrance? Why do men live on average 10 years less than women? Pediatrician Pēteris Kļava ironically comments that man today can be reduced to “a dick, a stomach, and a BMW”.

While doctor Gabor Maté theorises that suppressed emotions can result in physical ailments over time. Since an early age, boys listen to what is proper and what isn’t – you shouldn’t cry so hard, or talk so loud, or be angry, or pull girls by their plaits. But you can be like the heroes in the movies, like your father, like your uncle. Sometimes, these examples fit one’s own calling, but the road can also be long and complex. Contemporary culture has trained us to be fast and accurate, clear and concrete. But denying one’s  primeval essence leads to a life of role-playing. Sometime as a chameleon, frequently changing skins, but sometimes a mask grows on so tightly, that to take it off is an effort.
